In North Carolina, we’re a community that faces challenges head-on, and today, I’m sharing a deeply personal health journey that impacts many right here in our state.

For years, I’ve brought you stories from across our beautiful state, always striving for truth and empathy. But today, the story I’m sharing is my own, one that begins with a diagnosis I wouldn’t wish on anyone: HIV. Learning this about myself wasn’t just a medical revelation; it was a profound shift in perspective, a confrontation with lingering stigmas, and a personal challenge to navigate a world that too often misunderstands. This experience has profoundly reshaped my life, revealing both vulnerability and an unexpected wellspring of resilience.

My hope in sharing this deeply personal chapter isn’t for sympathy, but for understanding and dialogue. The reality of living with HIV has changed dramatically; with proper treatment, it’s a manageable condition, not the isolating sentence it once was. Yet, the stigma persists, creating barriers to testing, treatment, and open conversation, even here in North Carolina. Through this series, I want to shed light on living with HIV, demystify the science, and most importantly, foster a community where no one feels alone in their health journey, right here in our communities.
