Most main North Carolina roads are cleared after winter storm.

For many across the Tar Heel State, relief is finally here as major roadways are largely clear after our recent winter weather. Following intense round-the-clock efforts by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the vast majority of interstates and principal state highways are now largely passable. Crews worked tirelessly through challenging conditions to plow and treat key routes, significantly reducing the hazardous ice and snow accumulation that impacted travel across much of the state earlier this week.

While this marks a major step towards normalcy for commuters and travelers, officials still urge caution, especially on secondary roads, shaded areas, and less-traveled routes where residual ice may persist. Conditions continue to improve, but drivers should remain vigilant, allow extra stopping distance, and check DriveNC.gov for real-time updates before heading out. We want to hear from you.
