"Good evening, North Carolina, and thank you for joining us for this crucial winter storm update on Friday, January 23rd."

North Carolina Winter Storm Update | Friday, Jan. 23

Get ready, Western North Carolina, because this weekend is shaping up to be far more than just chilly, with a serious ice threat heading our way.

We’ve received a significant update from the National Weather Service: an Ice Storm Warning has been issued for all of Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. This warning goes into effect tomorrow, Saturday, January 24th, at 1 p.m., covering areas from the mountains to the foothills.

Forecasters are anticipating significant ice accumulation across the region, which could lead to treacherous travel conditions, widespread power outages, and dangerous walking surfaces throughout the affected areas. This warning is expected to remain in effect through at least 1 p.m. Sunday, January 25th, so preparations tonight are paramount for a safe weekend. Please finalize your plans to stay home and off the roads once the ice begins.

We want to hear from you. What are your preparations looking like for this weekend’s expected ice? Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below.
